Principal’s Message:
Whenever the calendar turns over to June, we know that the end of the year is approaching with
lots of special events and some end of year assessments ahead!
Special Note: the CMS PAC Family BBQ is planned for Friday, June 21. All parents/caregivers and
families of CMS students are invited to attend. Order forms have been sent home with students.
Families are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets for the event. This is
always a great event hosted by our PAC and we look forward to seeing you all there!
This year, we had two dragon boat teams entered into the Dragon Boat competition on June 1.
There is a middle years division and a senior years division. Unfortunately, due to high winds, the
event had to be called early in the afternoon. Our athletes paddled their hearts out and were great
representatives of Clearspring Middle School. CMS 2 even ended up with the fastest time for the
middle years division!
Track and Field is in full swing. We hosted our Grade 5 and Grade 6 CMS Track and Field days last
week. We want to thank Mr. Reimer, Mr. Paton and all the homeroom teachers for getting this
organized. We also want to thank the Grade 8 students who helped to run the events. We are
running our Grade 7 CMS Track and Field day on June 3. Some of our Gr 5 & 6 students will be
participating in the divisional track and field day on June 11 (which is our rain date). Our Grade 7 & 8
students who have qualified to represent CMS at the divisional meet will be competing on June 6.
Plan to attend! CMS Gr 7 & 8 students will be showcasing their talents at the CMS Concert Finale.
The concert is on June 5 at 7:00 pm in the CMS gym.
Many of our grades have special events planned for June:
– Grade 5 classes will be going to Lower Fort Garry on June 17.
– Grade 6 classes will be going to the Assiniboine Park and the Zoo on June 13.
– Grade 7 classes will be going swimming at the Steinbach Aquatic Centre on June 26.
– Grade 8 classes will be traveling to Camp Manitou on June 20.
All of our students will be completing a Numeracy Assessment in the last few weeks of school.
These assessments will help inform report card marks and will help us to plan for the teaching of
math next year. We use the data from each grade level to see where the gaps are and it helps to set
our grade level numeracy goals. It is important to note that this assessment is NOT an exam and
does not “count” for a specific percentage of the report card mark. It is another snapshot of the
learning your child has done this year in math and is used to help inform and round out other data
that we have collected throughout the year.
The Grade 8 Parent Farewell Committee has planned a Farewell party for all of our
Grade 8 students in the evening on Wednesday, June 26. It is important for parents to
note that this is NOT a school event. If you have questions about the event please
contact cmsgrade8farewell2024@gmail.com for more details or with any questions you
may have.
There will be a few staffing changes for next year. We are saying goodbye to a few of our staff
members and we wish them the best as they move on to other opportunities. Ms. Belinda Massey,
Ms. Lauryn Pappel and Mr. Nick Johnson will be leaving us. We wish them well! A full staffing list will
be available at the beginning of September.
If you are moving over the summer: Please contact the HSD transportation office so they can update
your new address. They are open all summer. It is important that they get the correct information so
that they can plan bus routes appropriately. This applies if your child had busing but will no longer
need it, if the move means your child will be on a different bus route or if you are wondering if you
qualify for busing. The sooner they know, the better! The HSD transportation office phone number is
204-320-2347.
Report Cards will be sent home on the last day of classes, June 27. We will be sending a paper copy of
the report cards home with each student. Digital copies will also be available on Parent Portal. Class
assignments for next year will be shared with all parents/caregivers on August 29 on Parent Portal.

School Information:
Biking and Walking Safety – We have a crossing guard at the Hespeler/Barkman/Ashford intersection
at 8:30 a.m. Please ask your child(ren) to time their walk to school in order to arrive at that
intersection after 8:30 a.m.. Students who are walking to and from school are reminded to keep to
city sidewalks. It is important that students not walk across private property for their own safety and
to show respect to our neighbours. Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their
child(ren) about the safest way to and from school and to avoid private property.
Lost and Found – We have an ever growing collection of sweaters and jackets in our lost and found.
Students and parents are invited to check out if any of those belong to them!
Communication – It is always a balance between communicating too much (and filling up your in
boxes) and not enough. We try to hit the right balance. You can also find school information on:
