The students involved in the MYRCA club (Manitoba Young Readers Choice Awards) last  school year were given the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony in Winnipeg at the MET on October 22, 2015.

At CMS we have run a MYRCA club for the last 2 years. The books that are read in this club are chosen by a panel of Manitoba professionals. The books have to be written by a Canadian author and need to be geared towards middle years students. Once the books are chosen, students read at least 3 of the books on the list and then have the chance to vote for their favorite. The awards ceremony celebrated the winning three authors.

Students saw awards being presented to the top three authors in the morning. The awards ceremony was hosted by Ace Burpee. Students were able to ask the authors questions. In the afternoon we walked to the Millennium Library for lunch. Because it was a beautiful day we got to eat outdoors in the library park. After, we went into the library and had the pleasure of listening to the winning author, David Carroll. He was truly inspirational. Not only was he a very animated speaker but he had cool life experiences to share with the students. He wrote the book Ultra, about a student doing the 100 mile run through a forest, which was based on his own adventures with running.

We were so impressed with the students participation in the club last year and felt that this was a great privilege to be able to take them on this learning trip.
